Handcrafted Soaps

Made with natural food grade oils, raw honey, and more!

All of our soaps are made from goat's milk, saponified vegetable oils, honey, beeswax, and other natural ingredients for those seeking beneficial skin care.

Each soap starts with a moisturizing blend of olive, castor, coconut, and palm oils, honey, shea butter, and beeswax. A couple of our soaps have no added fragrance. When we do scent them we use only pure essential oils.

Made in small batches by cold process, the soap is poured into wooden molds, cut by hand, and allowed to cure for three to six weeks. Each soap bar weighs approximately 4 oz.

Scented Soaps:
Our promise to our customers is to use only natural ingredients in the products we make. Look closely at the ingredients list on many soaps out there, both commercial and handcrafted varieties, and you may discover it is scented with fragrance oils or perhaps colored with synthetic dyes. If you're looking for a strawberry or blueberry bar you'll need to look elsewhere, as it is not possible to derive a natural essential oil from many fruits, flowers, etc.

Goat's Milk Soap has a pH level similar to our own which protects the skin from harmful bacteria or chemicals. Goat milk soap is high in proteins, vitamins and minerals that nourish and soften the skin, and help to seal in moisture, preventing dryness. It is is rich in beta-hydroxyl acids that act as natural skin conditioners.

Milk & Honey Lavender -- A best seller, this goat's milk based bar has lavender essential oil from Provence, France, added to enhance the natural fragrance from the ground lavender buds that permeate this bar. Mildly exfoliating, the goat's milk ensures this bar nourishes the skin while dirt and debris is washed away. One of the safest and most widely used essential oils, lavender is suitable for all skin types, and gives a wonderful calming aroma.

Lemongrass Mint -- Olive, coconut, palm, castor oils, with goats milk, honey, beeswax, cocoa butter combined with lemongrass and peppermint essential oils. A nice fresh wake-up bar!

Rosemary Lavender -- Our signature base ingedients (saponifed olive, castor, palm and coconut oils, cocoa & shea butters, honey, beeswax) with the enchanting scents of lemon, lavender, and rosemary essential oils. A heavenly combination! Men like it, too!

Oatmeal Spice -- A hint of Autumn, our own Connecticut River Valley honey blends perfectly with the aroma of natural nutmeg essential oil. Oatmeal acts as an exfolient, and goat's milk extends this bar's moisturizing qualities.

Chamomile Mint -- Calming chamomile flowers are infused with peppermint, spearmint, and wintergreen essential oils for a cool and refreshing, invigorating bar. One of our most popular bars -- and Stasia's favorite!

Patchouli -- Take me back to 1970 with this old favorite. Used for centuries in perfume and more recently in incenses, this essential oil is derived from leaves of the plant by the same name. Availability subject to market conditions for patchouli oil.

Tea Tree Mint -- The wonderous healing powers of tea tree oil blend with peppermint for a delightful sudsy bar. Tea tree oil is made from the from Australia's Melaleuca quinquenervia tree, a member of the eucolyptus family, and is clinically proven as an antiseptic and antifungal agent. It's effective against many kinds of common harmful bacteria as well as athletes' foot and nail fungus. Natural cocoa butter and peppermint oil and leaves remind one of a mint chocolate chip ice cream!

Orange Spice -- Sweet orange combined with cinnamon and nutmeg remind the user of Bigelow's "Constant Comment" herbal tea. A nicely scented smooth bar that grows in popularity each year.

Peppermint -- The cool scent and freshness of peppermint infuse this creamy, all-natural bar! Limited Availability.

Lavender Oatmeal -- Stasia's newest creation, this bar is infused with lavender and crushed oatmeal. Vanilla and lavender essential oils give this bar a lovely sweet aroma--softer than our regular lavender bar. Sure to be a favorite!

Unscented Soaps:
We know some of you love "smelly good" soaps. But there are many others, including our soapmaker, Stasia, that reach for the unscented, be it laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, or... bath soap. So for you 'unscented' lovers, she's developed several soaps that have no added essential oils to fragrance the bar. This is not to say they have no smell. You'll still detect, say, a little honey, or in the Honey Lavender bar, the faint scent released by the ground lavender buds. To put it simply, these aren't your "Bed, Bath, and Beyond" fare!

Milk & Honey -- Our moisturizing soap with the added richness of goat's milk. Creamy in color and smooth in texture, this is a nice face and body bar. No essential oil means very little natural scent. However, when wet this bar it reminds us of graham crackers!

Oatmeal Honey -- Another exfoliating bar, we use organic oatmeal that is lightly ground to retain some of the grain's texture. A soap with texture acts to remove dead skin cells and clogged pores, stimulating the healthy skin cells beneath. Our exfoliating soaps are mild enough to be used everyday. Since our soaps are "superfatted", meaning additional oils are added at the end of the soapmaking process, your skin is treated with their moisturizing benefits as the dirt and debris is washed away.

Care/Handling for Natural Soap
To keep your soap bar in its best condition we recommend using a soap dish with ridges or grooves that elevates the soap above any water. You don't want your quality bar to prematurely turn to mush. Those built-in porcelain soap dishes often catch and hold water. Try one of our wood soap dishes below to keep your soap well above sitting water.
"Simple" Wood. . . . . . . $3.50

Soaps have been made for thousands of years. In fact, the first soaps were accidentally made by fat dripping into the ashes of cooking fires. It was only a few generations ago (Grandma's?!) that lard and lye were the main ingredients in "homemade" soap. Today, we have the benefit of expertise and a cornucopia of oils, butters, and other ingredients from around the world with which to craft a rich, moisturizing and non-irritating soap.

Soap is made by saponifying a fat or oil with an alkali. "Saponifying" oil and fat into soap is one of the oldest and simplest chemical reactions known to humankind. Here's a little science background: A fat or oil is a "triglyceride," which means that three fatty acids of various carbon lengths are attached to a glycerine backbone. The alkali is sodium hydroxide, made by running electricity through salt water. The saponification process is a simple one-step reaction with no waste generated: the glycerine is split off from the fatty acids, and the fatty acids combine with the sodium to form soap, while the hydroxide forms water. The result is soap, glycerin and water (all alkali is consumed and therefore absent in our soaps).

Quality soap-making consists in great part of choosing the right proportions of the right oils with their different fatty acids. Most commercial soap manufacturers skimp on quality because of cost and use lots of tallow from beef fat with a little bit of coconut or palm kernel oil. Our unsurpassed soaps are made with olive, coconut, castor and/or avocado, palm, and jojoba oils along with shea and cocoa butters, instead of tallow, and contain three to four times more coconut oil than commercial soaps. Saponified coconut oil generates high-lather cleansing even in hard water because it has shorter-chain saturated fatty acids. Castor, olive and palm oil-based soaps make a mild, smooth, creamy lather because these oils contain longer-chain unsaturated and poly-unsaturated fatty acids. Shea butter and avocado oil add vitamins and moisture enhancing qualities.

Yes, you pay a bit more for our handcrafted soap but you do so with the understanding that only the finest NATURAL ingredients are in the lather that is generated against your skin. We use no dyes, whiteners, or synthetic fragrances--only pure and high-quality essential oils. What greater value is there for cleaning your skin?

Give our soap a try for a week. Treat yourself to what many customers have come to see is the best available soap for your skin.
